LITHIUM
BATTERIES
Cells and lithium-ion batteries are one of the most shipped and potentially dangerous goods which are currently on the market. The main risk is the flare-ups caused by a bump, by a problem of assembly or by a strong increase of temperature. The transport of these goods has undergone changes continuously in order to improve safety during the shipping.
Cells and lithium-ion batteries are classified through 4 UN numbers, specifically:
UN3090 Lithium metal batteries (including lithium alloy batteries).
UN3091 Lithium metal batteries contained in equipment (including lithium alloy batteries).
UN3480 Lithium ion batteries (including lithium ion polymer batteries).
UN3481 Lithium ion batteries packed with equipment (including lithium ion polymer batteries).
DON'T YOU KNOW THE UN NUMBER OF YOUR BATTERY?
With few simple information, it is possible to define the type of battery (rechargeable or non-rechargeable) and finding its classification.
Use the framework below to identify with which UN number is classified your battery.
